I ran that on my Dell 4600. It ran for three days then it stopped and the computer never worked again. I went back to my Packard-Bell that still works.

I am assuming the retrieving data part,it was not suppose to be a long term thing just long enough to get your data off a damaged/failing HDD.....

opening a program, Running programs, browsing the interweb the longer the computer runs the more it happens and longer it takes to recover.
A bit late to the party...

A known cause that fits the reported affect -
Page file is set to a fixed size and page file content is invalid.

Delete page file. Boot. Recreate page file.
