External Hard Drives and iPods

I have been thinking of buying a new external hard drive 1TB or 2-3TB and what I wanted to do, was take ALL of the music I have on my old external hard drive, and all the music on my iPod Classic 120GB and throw everything into the new external hard drive of 1TB, 2TB or 3TB, not sure what size I want to get. But anyway like I said, take all the music and throw it together into 1 drive, and then toss it all onto my iPod Classic, but not sure if I will have enough storage space or not. How can I find out how much GB I have from my old external hard drive music and my iPod Classic storage.

Plug the drive into a Windows machine and it should come up and show you how full it is if you click My PC, Computer or My Computer depending on Operating System`

Oh cool. But I was referring to the files themselves, if I have 1 folder called MUSIC with tons of other folders with music, how can I see how many GB are in that MUSIC folder, do I select everything and then it will tell me how much GB are there or how do I know?

Aye Mate but that was in Aussie Dollars I wager. We all know what the great US dollar will buy you.:roflmao:
A lot of the high price is made up from what we call "freight mate", that's what hurts the pocket.

In that wiki article it suggest the price was US $300.00 in 1985 and in today's US dollars $700.00. :D

Haha nice. As far as my iPod and external hard drive and music folder on that drive, here is the details -

iPod Classic 120GB

109GB USED

1.9GB FREE

External Hard Drive 41.5GB free of 465GB

MUSIC on External Hard Drive

118GB - 127, 068, 746, 986 bytes Size

Size on disck 118GB 127, 107, 551, 232 bytes

19, 170 Files 1, 896 Folders

So do I have enough space to get everything off my iPod and into my external hard drive, or should I buy a new external hard drive?

Your external hard drive appears to be 500GB with 41.5GB free. There is not enough space for the files on your iPod which amounts to another 109GB of files. You will need a minimum of 1TB to hold it all. Also my guess is that your 500GB external hard drive is 3 to 5 years old so I would suggest transferring your files to a new drive at some point in case of failure. :)

Ah got it, then I will look into buying a new external hard drive then. I want to take all the music from my iPod and external hard drive and toss it altogether into 1 music folder thing haha. I am hoping I have enough space to do this.

I bought an external hard drive with 1TB storage, for $54 bucks from Walmart. I will give it a try and get all my music off my iPod classic soon and let you know how it goes. :)
